Following on from our busy three days welcoming more than 200 people to initial interviews, you would have thought we would have scheduled a break but there has been no time to rest on our laurels! Busy is an understatement – that said, we thrive on making the most of each day.

February started with an official visit from Ian Liddell-Grainger MP, providing us with an opportunity to highlight the success achieved since launching Under Construction. We discussed our aims, the growth and development we are expecting in Sedgemoor and of course, future Employment and Skills requirements. Our local MP was complimentary of our work and offered his support for our aim to upskill the workforce pool of Sedgemoor.

Following on from the official visit, Under Construction became a film location for the morning! The resulting short film is due to highlight the joined up work of Under Construction and EDF Energy’s HPC Job Service; detailing the journey of a young woman who attended an Under Construction event then successfully gained employment on the HPC project. We are very much looking forward to sharing the final cut on our website.

The day of our Annual Burnham-On-Sea Recruitment Fair dawned as a very wet and miserable morning; thankfully, as the doors opened the sun shone! Despite the M5 closure, the Princess Theatre and Arts Centre was full to the brim of local employers offering a combined total in excess of 500 job and apprenticeship opportunities! After the long day, event evaluation began; using feedback from visitors and employers. I will review the event and re-adjust where necessary for 2019.

We were then back into action with our monthly HPC Info Session. On this occasion, the weather had changed to be attractively spring like, clearly putting a spring in the step of our visitors as we had our busiest HPC event of the year to date, providing 18 individuals with 1:1 Information, Advice and Guidance in two hours! A parched Team Under Construction and HPC Job Service but equally delighted with the response from our local residents.

We have also been very active on the Under Construction Social platforms; celebrating an overwhelming response to a Facebook post advertising a HPC Site Operations Event – 23k reach and over 100 shares! In fact we achieved 600 likes on Facebook on none other than Valentine’s Day, we certainly felt loved! We would be thrilled to reach a thousand followers by our first birthday on 25th April – can you help?
